A New Conversation With Men - How the Blockbuster Movie, Avatar Relates to the Men's Movement
For as long as I can remember I have always had a passion for movies. What began as a source of pure entertainment has now evolved into a philosophical and spiritual exercise in personal growth and awareness. I have come to recognize that movies are simply metaphors for life and when viewed from this perspective they can provide lessons and insights that assist us in discovering who we really are. This is the perspective from which I view movies. I see them as an opportunity to learn about myself and the world around me. I consider them to be divine teaching tools that challenge me to become a better human being. With my love of movies, I find it somewhat surprising that I have not written many reviews about them so I wanted to take this opportunity to share my interpretation of the latest blockbuster movie Avatar.
I can sum up the movie in one simple word. "MAGICAL" It really isn't just a movie, it's a visual and spiritual experience that has redefined going to the movies. From the very beginning to the climactic ending I was mesmerized by the pure beauty of the entire production. As a huge fan of computer generated imagery and science fiction,I was absolutely blown away by this film. Words can not come close to describing how technologically beautiful Avatar truly is. This movie has raised the bar and will be the standard through which future movies will be judged.
Of course it takes more than fancy computer generated graphics to make a great movie and this is another reason why I love this movie so much. The story works on so many different levels that it challenged me to really think about it's message and it's meaning. The primary message that I came away with is that this movie is symbolic of the transformation of men in society. Let me explain.
In the story, humans have traveled to a distant planet called Pandora. The planet has a very rare mineral called unobtanium that is needed to help save the earth. On Pandora, the natives are called the Na'vi people and they are ten foot tall blue colored humanoid type aliens. To help them secure the mineral, scientist develop a way to "grow" Na'vi people (Avatars) in a special facility and then they can connect human beings to a machine that allows them to transfer their spirits into the Avatar bodies which were developed in the lab. This allows humans to remote control the man-made Avatars on the planet using only their minds.
The primary character is Jake Sully who is a paralyzed former marine who volunteers to go to the planet to help retrieve the unobtanium after his brother is killed. His job is to use his Avatar body to become friends with the Na'vi people in hopes that he can convince them to move so that humans can extract large quantities of the rare mineral from their homeland. (I don't want to spoil the movie so if you haven't seen it yet you might want to skip the rest of this blog until you do.)
So Jake begins as a spy but he meets and falls in love with one of the Na'vi people named Neytiri and all of a sudden his priorities change and he decides to help the Na'vi instead of hurt them. That's a quick synopsis and I really don't want to give away the entire story so now I would like to share my insights and interpretation of the film.
First of all I liked James Cameron's choice of selecting a paraplegic former marine as the main character. What this symbolized for me was the fact that most men are "wounded" in our society and completely unaware of this fact. Most of us have some unresolved emotional conflict that keeps us from being our authentic self and this character really symbolized this point for me. In the movie, not only is Jake paralyzed from the waist down he is also grieving the loss of his brother who was killed in combat.
As the movie progresses, Jake is taught the ways of the Nav'i people and his heart begins to soften as he is exposed to the spiritual lifestyle of the Navi. He is taught how everything in nature is connected and that he should have reverence for all things. He is mesmerized by the incredible beauty of the planet and his relationship with Neytiri deepens as she teaches him to be more open to the beauty of the world around him.
Initially his love interest calls him stupid and naive but as he learns the way of the Na'vi she recognizes that he has a ""strong heart" which she finds very attractive and eventually she falls in love with him.
One of the most moving parts of the film is the expression "I See You". It is based on the Sanskrit word "Namaste" which means "the divine in me acknowledges the divine in you". In the movie it is used as a term of endearment which expresses that the person sees you and your true essence. As Jake is introduced to the way of the Na'vi, he begins to embrace all of the beauty around him and he develops a deep sense of reverence and respect for the environment and the people in it. Because of the love and guidance he receives from Neytiri he learns to open his heart and fall in love. Not only did he fall in love with Neytiri, he fell in love with the forest and the Na'vi people.
This is true transformation. He learned to open his heart and share his spirit. As the movie moves to it's climactic ending there is a scene in which Jake is transported back to his human body out of his Avatar form. When he does, he begins to suffocate because of the air on the planet. To save him, Neytiri locates his human body and gives him a gas mask that saves his life. This is the first time that she actually sees him in his human form but her heart recognizes him immediately as she calls him "my Jake". As he wakes up from almost suffocating he looks at her and says "I See You". As she caresses him in her arms she begins to weep and says "I See You" which for me symbolized that she loves the true essence of who he is and they were both expressing their authentic love for one another. They were true soul mates in every way.
I loved this scene! In summary, Avatar is a story of male transformation. It is the story of men learning to come to grips with how disconnected we sometimes feel and it provides us with an opportunity to reconnect.
The time has come for men to learn to heal their hearts and become authentic men. When they do this, they will experience what it truly means to be a loving, caring spiritually connected male. This transformation will allow men to experience the beauty of being alive and will provide the foundation for them to create loving relationships and passionate lives. This is the only way that we will see a reduction in the 50% divorce rate that currently plagues our society.
This is my intention with A New Conversation With Men. I am creating a resource for any man who is courageous enough to discover who they really are. My hope is that men use this resource to begin their own journey of transformation and eventually they will follow Jake's example in connecting with his authentic self and finding the woman of his dreams.
If you have not seen Avatar yet, run, don't walk to your local theater and check it out.
You'll be glad you did!
I See You!

Thoughts on Avatar
Thoughts on Avatar (A Native American's point of view)
Watching the movie AVATAR we are held captive by the technical advancement of the mind of man along with the aid of the modern computer. The sounds, the colors, the story line all combine to capture our imaginations and our spirit however does AVATAR represent more than simply a western taking place in the future or is it a "feel good" movie to rid our souls of the pain felt from the wrongs we have committed against nations that were too weak to defend themselves against the onslaught of modern warfare?
Some think the scenario is typically Hollywood where once more it is the "great white hope" that rescues everyone from a bleak and hopeless outcome. I have to admit that is true although our hero is transformed and accepted as a member of the clan. Don't we have countless stories of such things happening in our Native American history?
Others have talked of the strong female characters portrayed in the story, women that not only ruled but defended the others as warriors causing me to think that James Cameron the creator of Avatar, had either a good understanding of our culture or had very good advisors because the similarities didn't end there. I felt the movie successfully depicted the reverence the NA'Vi had for all living things as well as their connection to each other featuring clever symbols using Sci-Fi magic to explain aspects of our culture. In the end the only way the inhabitants of the planet Pandora could save their civilization was to unite with all of the tribes from the four corners of their planet.
Just as in the movie when the NA'Vi fought to save their Mother the planet of Pandora we must fight to save our Mother the Earth. After all, are we not facing the same enemy, a corporate society where greed and money are all that matter? Our war is more subtle but is it any less real? Is it too late? Can anything be done to change people's hearts and open their eyes to the inevitable? What are we willing to do to win? Are we willing to put away the poisons that have for so long rendered us weak and incompetent? Can we be disciplined enough to indulge only in those things that will strengthen our bodies and spirit? Are we determined to seek knowledge from any and every source that is available and help to provide others with opportunities to do the same? Will we earnestly ask of the spirits of the great ones to bless us with guidance, influence and inspiration recognizing that the "old" ways are no longer old but new and providing the path needed to accomplish this great feat!
Although injustice still prevails we seldom have to give of our physical lives to defend our people, our culture and this planet yet one could assume that doing so would be far easier than sacrificing those things this society uses to keep us bound in chains. Can we give up our SUV's, our addictions not only to substances but to the brainless entertainments of celebrity dramas and useless pursuits of what this so called "civilized" culture considers valuable? Can we exist without our regular trips to the mall, our latest fashions along with the poor body images they imbed upon our psyches? Most of all, can we come together for the common good and support one another as members of one great, united people?
Ah, there's the problem! There's the elephant in the room that no one wants to admit exists yet for as long as we continue to be separate bands, existing only to serve our immediate needs we will not prevail. Do we not believe in the words "mitakuye oyasin"? Can we really all be related and one in purpose when we have some of our relatives making obscene amounts of money through various casinos and from having negotiated better deals with the Government while others are literally freezing to death in subzero temperatures and subhuman conditions? Are these inequalities for anyone other than us to rectify and can anyone deny that until these ills are remedied we have no hope of having the unity necessary to save not only our people but our planet as well? Are we also willing to do as the NA'Vi and invite others to join our struggle or do we push them aside because they are neither full blood or enough part blood to be considered worthy not realizing that perhaps they are more Native in their hearts than we know and can be a mighty asset in a battle that requires all of those willing to give?
What I take from this movie is a hope that someday we can truly be one, that we can put aside our differences, our egos, our senseless dependencies and the desires this society dictates, leading the way for others to follow along a path that will create that more highly evolved civilization that has been proven to have once existed amongst our people.
Globally many people now dream of a way of life that would be in harmony with the earth providing all that is needed not just physically but spiritually and emotionally as well. There have been reports of widespread depression over the concepts portrayed in this movie, so much so it has been labeled the "Avatar Syndrome" where people morn the loss of thinking such a world can never be, that we have destroyed the very possibility of such an existence yet I have hope for our future and movies like this "AVATAR" is a very needed component stirring a noble desire within our hearts to want what the Great Spirit has always intended for us to have. Bravo to James Cameron for having the will to work so hard to create such a movie and my hope is that everyone can take from it the message that Pandora had once existed on this planet and it is within our power to create it again.

Dracula Costumes
Are Dracula costumes a Hollywood and Halloween fetish?
Fancy dress is fun and you will find more than you bargained for in the way of Dracula costumes for every age and not only for the Count but also for the Countess.
Fancy dress or Halloween or do you plan to attend a costume event whichever it does not matter because if you need Dracula costumes in a hurry then just go online and view one of the fancy dress sites on the web.
You will find an array of various different Dracula designs for both males and females as well as for the children. There is definitely no shortage of imagination when it comes to Count Dracula.
People are all different when it comes to wearing costumes as some just wear them as fun apparel because they just happen to be attending a fancy dress party or participating in the festivities of Halloween. Then there are those that are serious about their costume attire as they have a close affinity to the character and will go out of their way to make sure the costume lacks no detail and even their make-up is fashioned to the finest detail.
Then there are some that wear Dracula's attire to clubs and at times casually as they have seriously taken on Dracula's character whereby he has become an icon in the person's life to a point where they will start to behave and act as if they are Dracula.
Of course there are benefits when it comes to dressing up in Dracula costumes as one can create and become whoever they would like to be and the costume will make a lasting impression. Dressing up definitely has an effect on the psyche as people are able to just let go and have fun. There are also a fortune of excellent accessories just to add to the look such as devil horns, pitch and fork and all sorts of masks.
A complete Dracula outfit would comprise of a black and red cape, white shirt, white vest, Dracula medallions, and black pants. These costumes are all officially licensed by Universal Studios.

Discovering and Managing Our Avatars
Everything is backwards now, like out there is the true world and in here is the dream. - Jake Sully, Character in Avatar
The word avatar originally appeared in Hinduism where it means an appearance or manifestation of one of the deities. In recent years, it has come to mean a computer identity. In the movie Avatar, it refers to a way of occupying another body, grown specifically for that purpose.
In the movie, a somewhat cocky paraplegic ex-marine signs up to take part in a ruthless, profit motivated mission to uproot a civilization on another planet. His personal motivation is to prove he is still worth something despite his physical limitations. In the process he takes on an identity which he initially finds awkward but which eventually challenges him to become a compassionate hero for an indigenous race.
I have long thought that most of us also have various avatars through which we present ourselves to the world. We usually show people one main identity by which they recognize us. In different circumstances we might appear quite different to others, sometimes for the better and sometimes for worse. I remember attending several funerals where I discovered relatives of mine had a whole other side, in their case making their lives more substantial than I had thought.
Generally well adjusted people might contemplate or attempt suicide in response to a financial crisis they consider impossible to overcome. Usually placid parents can become downright fierce in response to seeing their children threatened. Sexual predators can seem quite ordinary most of the time. Those who know them in most circumstances find it hard to believe that they are capable of such acts. Some people can appear quite easygoing in some settings and act as tyrants in others on a regular basis.
Who are we really? Does one of our avatars represent our basic personality and the others hide who we really are? Or is each of our appearances a basic part of ourselves? If we act in ways we later regret, we might try to offer the explanation, "I was not myself." We did not really intend to act the way we did. Court cases have turned on whether circumstances can affect responsibility for our actions.
Sometimes we are well aware of what leads us to act in certain ways. Sometimes we surprise ourselves as well as others by our actions and have no sensible explanation for our behavior.. Everyone can be thrown off balance from time to time. If we find ourselves frequently acting in ways which embarrass us, maybe it is time to find out why.
Life Lab Lessons
Do you have times when you do not act the way you would like to?
Do you know what leads you to act that way?
If so, see how you can avoid or minimize the effect of troubling circumstances.
If you are stuck, ask people who care about you for their input.
If you are still stuck, consider talking with a professional counselor.

Ways to Watch Avatar Episodes Online
Are you a big fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender television series? Then you will be happy to know that it's actually possible to watch Avatar episodes online for free on your pc or laptop. Since its debut in 2005, the show has won lots of awards and there are now millions of people worldwide who regularly watch the series on TV. In some countries, it is known as Avatar: The Legend of Aang.
So, how can you watch this show online on your computer? To do this you need to know about the various options that are available to you. You may already be familiar with some of these options but some of them you may never have heard of before.
One of the quickest ways to find any episode that you may be looking for is to visit fan sites, discussion groups and forums. You will be able to find all the gossip and tips on what's happening around. I have seen lots of posts in forums with some fans providing tips on where to find streamed episodes that you don't even need to download. You can just watch everything online without having to download anything.
Fan sites are a great place to look. There are some fan sites that have uploaded episodes on their servers so that other fans can download them. I don't know about the legality of this but you have to make sure you don't do anything illegal. Downloading copyright protected material is illegal in most countries.
One of the best ways to watch Avatar episodes online is to visit the websites of the major TV station's and find out if they stream the show from there. This is an excellent way of finding episodes that you can watch without doing anything illegal. If the station doesn't allow that, you can check out other stations such as foreign and international stations. These stations are usually free to air satellite TV channels so you can pick up their streams with you pc using software or by visiting a website that maintains a list of such stations. Many people use this method to watch any television episode that they are interested in. Since there are potentially many different channels showing the series online, you won't be limited to just one channel.
First, check out all the channels that show the series and make a list of the channels and the times when they show Avatar episodes on their station. After you've done this, it is very easy to just switch from one stream to another or from one website to another. Many of the international and foreign channels have an online presence so you can also just visit their website and you will be able to watch programs on their TV station using Windows Media, Realplayer or the media player that they provide.
Of course, there are other methods that you can use to watch Avatar episodes online but remember some of the options may require you to pay a fee in order to access their services online. Others are free. Many people say that the free services are not as good as the paid ones, but you can try both and find out what works for you.

What to Do on Mother's Day!
Mothers Day is coming up, and that means you need to start thinking of a way to celebrate. What do you plan on doing? Breakfast in bed, all the cooking and cleaning for the whole day, waiting on her hand and food...ok, but you are still not off the hook. These things are already expected, after all. You're going to need some new Mothers Day ideas.
Start your Mothers Day off right with Mothers Day gifts and the whole breakfast in bed thing. Once that's over with, you better start cleaning the house if you didn't already do it at four a.m. that morning.
Remember, house cleaning includes all of the chores as well as cleaning every single room; you need to do the things that even your mother doesn't normally do. Groom all of your pets as well, if you have any; walk the dogs, change the litter box, polish the shell, clean the tank, and all those wonderful things that come with the animals.
By the time you have finished if will more than likely be time for lunch, and your mom may have decided that this is a suitable time for getting out of bed. If she is like most people, she will probably be checking her email first thing. This is usually when you remember that you and your siblings forgot to send greeting cards.
Fortunately you can send Mothers Day ecards from one of the many free online ecard websites out there. They are easy to use and she will receive it almost instantly after you press 'send,' so you can get it to her inbox before she notices that you forgot, as long as she doesn't check the date and time of arrival.
Now it's time for you to take her out for lunch. Hopefully you remembered to make that reservation, and that you included your grandmother as well, because she is indeed a mother, and if it wasn't for her, your mother wouldn't be there. So it's like double appreciation.
Once you're finished with lunch, you need to think of some things to do before you take her out to dinner. You can mark greeting cards off the list because you sent Mothers Day cards to her email. Now think...did you write any Mothers Day poems?
You should take her to the movies and all that jazz, where you will happily sit through whatever middle aged movie she wants to see. Then you can go around the mall and browse through the various Tupperware stores, but not to buy...just to look. Don't worry, you will get through this, and before you know it, it will be time for the grand finale: Dinner.
You have, of course, saved the best for last. Everybody loves a good steak house once in awhile, and you're going for the Filet Mignon even if it breaks your wallet in half. It's only one day out of the year that you need to go all out like this, so you had better make it worth her while.

Gaia Online Review - The Internet's Online Hangout For Teens
Gaia Online calls itself an "online hangout" for teenagers. Incorporating a social network, various online forums, a virtual world, and a gaming component, Gaia Online is one of the most popular websites among teenagers and young adults. This article reviews this website and tells you if it is worth your kid's time.
Design
The first thing that captures your attention when you visit Gaia is the bright, perky anime theme. Borrowed heavily from Japanese comics, the design has a flourish of bright colors, clean lines, and a very effervescent feel to it. Considering that this is a website aimed at teenagers, the design feels very appropriate.
Features
The main feature of this virtual world is its wide assortment of forums. Numbering over 151, these forums cater to virtually every subject and interest - from photography and surfing, to hip-hop and cooking. You will be hard pressed to find a subject not covered under the Gaia Online forums. Incidentally, Gaia Online is also one of the most popular message boards on the internet with over a million posts per day.
When you first sign up for Gaia Online, you will be prompted to create your own avatar in the form of a "chibi" character. "Chibi" is a Japanese term for a small man or child, and in anime, it refers to a small, childlike character. The chibi characters are diverse in their looks, and you will definitely find something appealing among the wide selection.
The avatar system is central to Gaia Online. Users can dress up their chibi characters and get them rated in the 'Avatar Arena", buy houses, furniture, and houses for their avatars, and take part in role playing games in the 'Barton Town'.
'Gold' is the currency used in this virtual world. This virtual currency can be gained by participating in the forum, posting answers to other members' questions, playing games, taking part in role playing quests, or even buying it outright with actual cash. In fact, you can buy pre-paid Gaia cash cards at select Target stores in the US.
Gaia Online has a vibrant virtual world called 'Gaia Towns'. Members can buy houses for their avatars in these towns and interact with other members through games and chat rooms. You can also furnish and decorate your house and get it rated in the 'House Arena'.
Other features of Gaia include an expanding games section with a wide selection of card and arcade games, and an 'Art Arena' where members can showcase their creative talent.
Content
Gaia Online is aimed squarely at teenagers. Some of the content on the website is not suitable for children under 13, and you may encounter some profanity use. Porn and sex is a strict no-no, and any posts about these subjects are quickly removed by moderators and staff members.
Community
Gaia Online's strongest point is its friendly community. Its forums are among the most trafficked on the internet, and you can usually find dozens of answers to a question within a few hours of posting. Members are very helpful and there are a very few rotten apples (or 'trolls'). The moderators and staff members are quite active and remove any objectionable posts at a moment's notice.
Website Performance
Gaia Online, despite its huge traffic, manages to stay online 24/7, with very little downtime. The site loads up fairly quickly even during peak traffic hours. The games section might post a problem on older computers because of the heavy use of Flash and Shockwave, but on the whole, Gaia Online runs very smoothly, with very few outages.
Final Words
Gaia Online is one of the most popular online hangouts for teens, and rightly so. With its mix of games, social networking, virtual world, and community forums, Gaia Online provides something for everybody. It may not be suitable for children below 13, but older teens will find a lot to love on this website.

Spiritual Law of Attraction
Many of us recognize the Law of Attraction to be a principle arriving from New Thought or New Age. It can actually be said so, but the Bible too teaches us about the Law of Attraction. Though some of us have read the Bible, we did not realize the relation between the statements in Bible with the Law of Attraction. Those that have realized the truth, would have gained the secret that gives them the opportunity to live the life of abundance. Actually, we all deserve to have such life. So, learn the Law of Attraction and you too can get the opportunity.
Law of Attraction In Bible
We are going to refer to the Bible of King James Edition. Browse the Bible for Matthew 21:22 and we will discover the secret that been used by many people to turn dreams into reality. The principle in Matthew 21:22 had been used by the modern Law of Attraction film called The Secret. There is new principle based on the Bible and it is called the Creative Process.
Browsing the Matthew 21:22 in the Bible, we discover that, "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." The modern Law of Attraction teachings are based on this truth from the Bible. It is the evidence that Law of Attraction exist and been working throughout many century. If we want to manifest something using the Law of Attraction, we must follow the procedure from the Matthew 21:22 principle.
Buddha's Law of Attraction
Actually, there are more spiritual teachings we can refer with the Law of Attraction and show that Law of Attraction is true and works. Buddha said that we are what our thought have made us. If thought made us then who made our thoughts? Our thoughts are product of our mind. Who controls our mind? Nobody but ourselves. Additionally, Buddha even said that the mind is everything. Now, that is the Secret Law of Attraction.

Avatar - Why It's a Box Office Success
In all the visual splendor of James Cameron's Avatar, it's easy to overlook the script. In fact, the Avatar screenplay has come in for the same abuse Cameron's Titanic script earned. You've heard the complaints: the story is a Pocahontas rip-off. The bad guys are just evil villains. The dialogue is stilted. In short, great visuals, bad screenwriting.
The critics aren't so much wrong as irrelevant. What they don't get is that Cameron is a brilliant writer of pop culture. He is one of three or four best popular storytellers, and his secret, which all current screenwriters need to know, is his mastery of genres.
Like Avatar, Titanic had fabulous visuals. But the key to its success was that it combined the disaster film - a sub-form of action - with the love story. These two forms are on opposite ends of the genre spectrum, which is why they are rarely combined, and why Cameron showed his true genius when he put them together.
The disaster film gives the audience the thrill of spectacle and scope, something no other medium can do as well. But for that same reason, disaster films have no heart. They're about the thousands of people in the maws of slaughter. They're not personal. That's why Cameron spent most of that film setting up a love story, which is about the community of two, the most personal, heart-filled genre you can get. So when the disaster finally hit, the pain of loss started at the epicenter of the two lovers and spread out from there.
Jump forward to Avatar, and Cameron is using the exact same strategy. Avatar isn't just a big, noisy war story set in an outer space future. It's an epic romance, the grand myth combined with the intimate love story. The technical definition of the romantic epic is that the fate of the nation is determined by the love between two people. That is a very tough story weave to do right, but if you do, it has almost infinite worldwide popular appeal.
An epic is almost always built on the myth genre, by far the most common genre in worldwide blockbusters. The key question for the screenwriter, especially when you are adding fantasy and science fiction elements, is what myth to use. In the Myth Class, I talk extensively about the ten new myth forms on which a large percentage of worldwide storytelling will be based. One of these I call the eco-myth, and that is beat for beat the new myth that Cameron uses in Avatar.
Of course, the "new" eco-myth has a history. For over 160 years, it has been one of America's two national myths. The first is the Western, and it was the dominant American myth from about 1850 to1960. The Western is the story of the building of the American nation by taming nature and "civilizing" the "savages" the Europeans encountered as they were going about their godly task.
But there was a second American myth that played underneath the Western all those years. It was the anti-Western, also known as the "Eastern," starting with Thoreau and working its way through John Henry, Conrad's Heart of Darkness and Fitzgerald's Gatsby. It broke into the forefront of American storytelling during the Vietnam War, in films like The Wild Bunch, Butch Cassidy, and McCabe and Mrs. Miller.
The anti-Western has been described in one line as "the Machine in the Garden," and that is the myth on which Avatar is based. It is the dark side of the American story, but more generally is the story of any technologically superior, male-god culture that wants the land of a nature-based, female-god culture.
The downside of the anti-Western myth is that it ends badly for the hero. The natives are slaughtered, and that is not going to work if you want an international blockbuster. That's where the eco-myth puts a new twist on the anti-Western. Instead of ending with inevitable destruction, the eco-myth finds a way to rejuvenate the world by creating harmony among people and between people and nature.
The great strength of the eco-myth as a foundation for a blockbuster - besides the happy ending - is that it combines the myth story structure with a detailed story world. Story world has been a major element of blockbusters for at least the last ten years, as we vividly saw with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. The eco-myth, by its very nature, is a celebration of the interconnectedness of all things in the world, and the cinematic medium is unmatched in showing this.
Like Tolkien in Lord of the Rings, Cameron creates a lush story world that emphasizes trees and plants. The center and foundation of the Na'vi world is the great protective tree, a futuristic version of the Tree of Life that holds up the marriage bed in The Odyssey. The plants of Pandora are often floating and lit from within, which gives the audience a sensual and emotional understanding of what it really means to live in an interconnected world.
Floating is the essential feature of this story world, and is a major reason for the massive success of this film. Any fantasy world, if it is to be successful on a grand scale, must have the qualities of a utopia. And in the history of utopias, the single most important quality is floating or flying. Think of the floating tea party in Mary Poppins, Harry Potter playing Quidditch on his broomstick, or the floating house in Up. Cameron understands this deeply. So his jungle world of Pandora is much more like an ocean floor. Plants float, so do entire islands, and the ten-foot-tall Na'vi fly everywhere on the backs of the giant bat-like banshee, infinitely more agile than the most advanced fighter plane.
This element of flying is also crucial to the second major genre in Avatar, the love story. One of the unique beats of the love story is the first dance. Here the dance occurs while the would-be lovers fly on the backs of a banshee. It's a beautiful orchestration of dance, love, flight, action and story world, and that scene alone is worth the price of admission.
As Avatar moves to its inevitable final battle, Cameron brings all of the story threads together. The focal point of the battle is the lit-from-within Tree of Souls, and for the techno-fascist humans, it is fit for nothing but destruction. Of course, this film is not a tragedy, so the battle does not go the way of history, with the technologically superior Europeans wiping out the natives. It's a glorious scene where Cameron pulls out every trick in the story book, including a charge on horseback that is right out of The Charge of the Light Brigade.
If you want to understand Avatar's phenomenal success, you have to see it as a piece of screenwriting, but without the traditional standards of "good writing." Cameron is a genius of popular storytelling, and he knows the great popular storytelling comes from mixing genres that take maximum advantage of the film medium. True, the rest of us don't have the advantage of $300 million to realize our screenwriting dreams. But if you think Avatar's success comes primarily from all that money on the screen, you will miss some truly invaluable lessons in story. As Cameron himself has said, "People ask [me] about the future of filmmaking...the simple answer is that filmmaking is not going to ever fundamentally change. It's all about storytelling."

Movie Review - James Cameron's Avatar
10 out of 10 the movie
15 out of 10 IMAX 3-D Version
It took fifteen years and countless dollars but James Cameron has crafted a multi-layered, action packed, visionary movie for the ages. Make no mistake about it, your kids will be showing Avatar to their kids twenty-five years from now. The film is a visually astonishing, technological masterpiece, a true leap forward for cinema and it's a damn fine movie as well. If possible, you must see this film in IMAX 3-D and if you can't get to an IMAX location, at the very least get to a 3-D showing. Here's the thing... Avatar is not like anything you've ever seen. It isn't just a film... it's a cinematic experience of epic proportions. Cameron hasn't created a movie here people; he's created a brand new world that is fully engaging. I truly felt like I was there.
Avatar takes place in the year 2154. Earth is on the verge of an ecological disaster that can only be stopped by a mineral found on the moon of Pandora. Unfortunately, Pandora is home to a blue skinned race of natives known as the Na'vi who live on top of the largest mineral reserve and they aren't too keen to the idea of a move. The invading military commander and head corporate sleazebag (Giovanni Ribisi) assigned to grab the mineral are just itching to force the Na'vi from their homes, but are forced to wait as scientist and resident Na'vi expert, Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) tries a more diplomatic approach. Grace has invented avatars, hybrids of human and Na'vi DNA that can be controlled remotely by a human. It is her goal to use these avatars to befriend and teach the natives and convince them to move with diplomacy. If the Na'vi aren't willing to leave their home on the own, the military will force them out through sheer force.
After the death of his scientist brother, crippled marine Jake Sully agrees to control his avatar and research the Na'vi under the supervision of fellow Avatar, Grace. Although Grace is Jake's boss, he is also under orders from military commander Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) to infiltrate the Na'vi and point out all of their weaknesses for a future military attack. While exploring the planet, Jake befriends Na'vi princess Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), who then takes him to meet her clan. It is decided that Neytiri will teach and train Jake in the way of her people. Eventually Jake becomes drawn in by the proud group of blue skinned warriors and begins to question whose side he should be on. That's more plot than I actually wanted to divulge but once you see the film, you'll realize I've only revealed the basic set up for the movie.
Just like any other story, Cameron's Avatar is a derivative of many fine films that came before it. This is not a putdown of any kind. If anything, it proves that Cameron is an amazing filmmaker and storyteller that understands what elements are needed to make an astonishing crowd pleaser. Avatar plays like a cross between Dances With Wolves and Aliens with a dash of Star Wars, Braveheart and Titanic thrown in for good measure. Cameron has set a new benchmark for the way films look, much like Star Wars did in 1977. With his new technology, Cameron has changed the rules of filmmaking. There is no limit to what can be created for the screen; moving forward, the only restrictions will be each individual filmmakers imaginations. There is not one special effect in this film that isn't startlingly real. Not once will you look at a Na'vi or alien creature and think it looks fake. He has truly created a world that the viewer gets absorbed in and may very well not want to leave (I know I didn't). The moon of Pandora is brought to life with such lifelike clarity. The details of every plant, every creature are simply astonishing and a wonder to behold. It may very well be the most beautiful film I've ever seen.
As stunning as Avatar is to look at, it's multi-layered social messages are equally as beautiful. There is a strong message throughout the whole film about the importance of preserving the planet and being green and never once does it become too heavy-handed. If anything it may inspire more and more people to recycle.
Avatar also serves as an allegory for what the Native Americans were subjected to upon the discovery of America and manages to teach, not preach, about social intolerance and racism. Despite all the violence on the screen, Avatar also manages to spread a message of peace and goodwill towards all creatures.
James Cameron's storytelling, directing and visual wizardry is all flawless, but what about the acting? The entire cast is top notch; each giving excellent performances outright. To be honest I wasn't all that impressed with Sam Worthington when I saw him in Terminator: Salvation, but in all fairness, that whole movie was a huge letdown. After his terrific turn in Avatar, I now understand what Hollywood sees in him. It is a pleasure to see Sigourney Weaver and Cameron working together again (the first time was Aliens) and the seasoned actress is as good as ever here. Actress Zoe Saldana is having quite the career making year going from Star Trek to this and she delivers a fierce yet poignant performance as Na'vi princess Neytiri. I have to give special kudos to Stephen Lang as the hard-nosed, war hungry Colonel Quartich. Lang has created one of the most electrifying onscreen villains of all time. His ferocity and military sized ego deserve a Best Supporting Actor nomination at this year's Oscars.
If Avatar doesn't win the Academy Award for Best Picture it will be an outright travesty much like Star Wars losing to Annie Hall in 1977. Annie Hall is a good movie no doubt, but thirty plus years later, can anyone argue that Star Wars was robbed. I mean really people... I believe Star Wars has held up a little better over time than Woody Allen's little movie and Avatar will do much the same. Sure Avatar winning best picture doesn't make up for Lucas' epic film losing, but it would certainly be a step in the right direction.
To sum it up, writer/director James Cameron has proven that there is no limit to his talent and his imagination knows no bounds. Avatar is a feast for the senses, with a strong story, incredible action sequences, brilliant performances and several important social messages as well. Do not miss this movie in theatres and again if you can see it in IMAX, pony up the extra cash and prepare yourself for a visceral experience at the movies like you've never had before. Let's just hope we don't have to wait another dozen or so years to revisit Pandora or for that matter see any new film from the wizard of Hollywood.

Movie Review For "Avatar"
Every person who loves freedom and hates tyranny MUST SEE THIS FILM.
Drop what you're doing. Take the afternoon off work. Clear your schedule this evening. But do what you have to do to get to the closest theater that is showing the James Cameron film "Avatar." James Cameron is saying a lot more than just the triumph of good over evil.
In my seldom-humble opinion, The "Lord of the Rings" trilogy was the high water mark in visual effects. But that was then and this is now. "Avatar" has got to be far and away the most visually sumptuous movie I've ever seen. The fact that this film exists, and I got to see this for only eight bucks, makes me glad that I am alive in 2010.
I only viewed the movie on the flat big screen. But I know that the theaters are screening this movie in 3D and in IMAX screen. I can't even wrap my mind around that...but I will be soon. I'll see this movie a few more times just to take in the visual feast happening all over the screen at any moment. Then, when it comes out in DVD, I'll own it so I can see it a few dozen more times.
The first few minutes of the film lays out the plot, and then for about 90 minutes, you are introduced to Pandora, a mind-boggling forested world. Then the plot thickens when the bad guys make their move against the fascinating indigenous people, the Navi. Seems that the Navi's ancestral land sits on top of a massive mineral deposit that the bad guys want. The movie never tells you how the baddies came to own Pandora, or its mineral rights. It's just assumed that they have the right and authority to take it. So it's either move off the land or die. Sounds just like the Mobocracy Looters and their Minions in DC.
The bad guys have a mercenary (merc) army of former Marines who are only there for the money, and are enthusiastic about killing whoever ain't paying them. Sounds just like the Pentagon hired guns who kill for a paycheck.
Our hero, Jake Sully, is much like Kevin Costner's character in "Dances With Wolves." Jake, a merc, is sent to learn about the Navi, and then becomes one of them. However, Jake doesn't just relocate like the Lakota lieutenant. He exacts a severe toll on the nasties when they mess with his new family.
Those of us who envision an American state seceding from the Union and becoming a new nation will see the obvious similarities between the bad guys and the present crowd in Washington. And likewise you will see the similarities between the Navi and those who just want to be left alone to live in liberty and peace.
Another comparison must be the people in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan who were living their lives and certainly not bothering or threatening America. But millions of them have died and more millions are now refugees due to American military aggression. And don't think that the liquid minerals under the sand in the Middle East is not the number one reason American boots are on the ground.
But hopefully you'll also recognize the foundational human response to tyranny, which is to fight back with everything you have and everyone you can gather. When you do that, you get labeled "the insurgents."
The old Chinese general Sun Tzu would be proud of these Navi warriors as they use the weakness of the mercenaries against them to defeat them. The bureaucrats and mercs are so swaggeringly overconfident that they make many tactical blunders.
So my friends, make sure you watch this film at least once in the next few days. Take your girlfriend or your spouse and kids, and then after the movie, explain why the message of the film is so crucial.
It's that important.

Create Free Avatars For Facebook Or Twitter - Cartoon Yourself
Often we don't love to put our own pictures in the general photography mode and wish something like creating cartoon pictures of own that actually tells about your inner artistic nature. And this trend is mostly seen in the social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Orkut and others. If you too have felt that the pictures are no longer attractive and they won't tell your visitors what you have in your inner mind then switch to the cartoon pictures and make avatars for yourself. It is very much possible to create free avatars for Facebook or Twitter with the help of lots of websites that allow one to create avatar of his or her own in various shades and designs.
The website that enables you to create your own cartoon is called avatar maker and this facility is absolutely free by some popular online websites. Everyday millions of people log into these websites and create their own avatars for pasting the images on social networking site or creating desktop or use them for other purposes. It will not be difficult for you to find an avatar maker over the internet. The moment you search for such a cartoon maker of your image in the internet, hundreds of such site will pop up. But do you think that each and every of these sites are reliable? Perhaps not!
While choosing online sites to create avatar of your image you should be careful too. Because many online websites do allow you the free service but they send files attached with malware and adware to your system which can be hazardous to the health of your computer as well as can be threatening to steal data from your computer. Go for reliable and reputed sites like Meez, Manga, South Park and others for the cartoon character you wish for yourself or friends.

Get More Personal Training Clients by Asking For Referrals
Out of all the marketing methods that work to get more personal training clients, none is more effective than word-of-mouth. The best part is that it costs nothing. The question is, what can you do to increase word-of-mouth referrals in your business?
The first thing you must do is develop a word-of-mouth referral plan for your personal training business. You need to acknowledge that it took a lot of hard work, time and money to get each client you currently have. So why not leverage them through the people they know and the referrals they can give to get more personal training clients?
As I sit here writing this article I am keeping a keen eye on the clock because as soon as I am finished I am off to watch the movie Avatar. Albeit on DVD but I have been promised it will still be fantastic. In fact my friend told me I must see this movie, he loved it. He told me that the writer, James Cameron, wrote the original concept back in 1994 but did not produce the movie. Instead waiting for technology to catch up so that he may portray the visual effects the way he imagined them in his head. This is an amazing fact and I am getting excited to watch it; this is a perfect example of good referral. Had my friend never recommended the movie to me I may have never watched it.
The fact is, the people behind Avatar launched a huge marketing campaign to get people 'gossiping' about the movie. They released Avatar merchandise, toys and even an Avatar computer game. The more gossip they could encourage the more tickets they would sell, they knew this very well. The important thing is, they had a referral plan in place and did not leave the success of the movie up to chance. The question is are you leaving the success of your personal training business to chance?
Most personal trainers do not realize they are sitting on a goldmine of new clients. If only they could tap into the people their current clients know. Here is what a clearly defined referral plan can do for you;
You will get more personal training clients coming into your business
You will reduce your marketing costs
Your conversion ratio (prospects into customers) will increase
The bottom line is your profits will be up and costs down
Even though big movie launches have big advertising budgets, they too keep it no secret that the best form of advertising for them is word-of-mouth. In many cases referrals are what drive their success. As a personal trainer if you are not implementing a referral plan in your business you may already be riding the fine line of business success and business failure. You do not need a big budget to start your referral plan, in fact in many cases you can get started without spending a thing. If you want to get more personal training clients you must develop your own word-of-mouth referral plan.

Avatar - The Game Review - Is it As Good As the Movie?
James Cameron's Avatar surpassed all expectations to become the highest grossing movie of all time. It surpassed his own Titanic movie which he made ten years ago to take the top spot. As with every other blockbuster movie, a video game tie-in is almost mandatory. Avatar: The Game is an interesting game that isn't quite as good as the movie, but it has some interesting features worth mentioning.
The first thing you'll notice about this game is how rich the environment is. The majority of the game takes place on the planet Pandora, a lush forest with colorful creatures and floating mountains. The game is actually a prequel of the movie. Although many of the supporting characters are included and even voice acted by their real-life counterparts, the main characters from the film are nowhere to be found. Instead, you will play as a man named Abel Ryder, a new recruit for the military team on Pandora.
Early in the game, you are forced to make a choice. You must choose whether you want to fight on the side of the humans or on the side of the Na'vi. Interestingly, the game then splits into two completely separate gaming experiences depending on what you choose, so it is almost like getting two games for the price of one.
If you choose to fight on the side of the humans, the rest of the game will play mostly like a 3rd person shooter. It can be pretty fun running around the forest with a flame thrower and a machine gun. If you choose to fight for the Na'vi, the rest of the game will be more like a platform action game. You can run around on the tree tops, fight off the enemies with knives and clubs, and even fly through the air on a flying dragon.
The coolest aspect of this game is that it is one of the first games to be created in full 3D. If you happen to have a 3D television, then this will be one of the most immersive game experiences you've ever had. It is mesmerizing to walk through the colorful jungle in stereoscopic view while bullets literally whiz by your head. If you've got a friend with a 3D television, it is worth it to bring your system over to his house to play.
There are some slight drawbacks to the game. The foremost complaint is that many of the missions are remedial and tedious. There is a lot of simple item-collecting. The storyline is also fairly sparse, and it presumes that you have seen the movie. If you've never seen Avatar, you'll probably be wondering what's going on and why you should care.
Overall, Avatar is a good game that is worth checking out for its graphics alone. It's also a must buy if you are an Avatar fan and want to explore the world and stories of this universe even further. It should hold you over until James Cameron's book comes out.
