Get More Personal Training Clients by Asking For Referrals

Out of all the marketing methods that work to get more personal training clients, none is more effective than word-of-mouth. The best part is that it costs nothing. The question is, what can you do to increase word-of-mouth referrals in your business?

The first thing you must do is develop a word-of-mouth referral plan for your personal training business. You need to acknowledge that it took a lot of hard work, time and money to get each client you currently have. So why not leverage them through the people they know and the referrals they can give to get more personal training clients?

As I sit here writing this article I am keeping a keen eye on the clock because as soon as I am finished I am off to watch the movie Avatar. Albeit on DVD but I have been promised it will still be fantastic. In fact my friend told me I must see this movie, he loved it. He told me that the writer, James Cameron, wrote the original concept back in 1994 but did not produce the movie. Instead waiting for technology to catch up so that he may portray the visual effects the way he imagined them in his head. This is an amazing fact and I am getting excited to watch it; this is a perfect example of good referral. Had my friend never recommended the movie to me I may have never watched it.

The fact is, the people behind Avatar launched a huge marketing campaign to get people 'gossiping' about the movie. They released Avatar merchandise, toys and even an Avatar computer game. The more gossip they could encourage the more tickets they would sell, they knew this very well. The important thing is, they had a referral plan in place and did not leave the success of the movie up to chance. The question is are you leaving the success of your personal training business to chance?

Most personal trainers do not realize they are sitting on a goldmine of new clients. If only they could tap into the people their current clients know. Here is what a clearly defined referral plan can do for you;


You will get more personal training clients coming into your business
You will reduce your marketing costs
Your conversion ratio (prospects into customers) will increase
The bottom line is your profits will be up and costs down

Even though big movie launches have big advertising budgets, they too keep it no secret that the best form of advertising for them is word-of-mouth. In many cases referrals are what drive their success. As a personal trainer if you are not implementing a referral plan in your business you may already be riding the fine line of business success and business failure. You do not need a big budget to start your referral plan, in fact in many cases you can get started without spending a thing. If you want to get more personal training clients you must develop your own word-of-mouth referral plan.
